Daniel Kulari (2004) is an Italian-Albanian composer, performer and audiovisual artist based in Cuneo, Italy.
He works in acousmatic, mixed and audiovisual composition and improvisation. His artistic research is based on the hybridisation of sound, performance and musical practices, implementing the creation of multiple links between different musical worlds, studying their social-historical behaviours and making extensive use of the imaginary and the personal element.
He is part of the electroacoustic improvisation duo Manticora with Matteo Grosso, focusing on lo-fi, noise aesthetics and plunderphonic approach to internet media.
Artist's statement
My work tends to incorporate various cultures and musical worlds that are seemingly distant from one another (such as techno, classical music, pop and folk) – not only as a personal listening experience, but also as a means of artistic expression that is integral to my musical sensibility. I often work with sonic ‘images’ that may draw on reality or be inspired by specific internet phenomena centred around a particular visual aesthetic. My modus operandi draws on musique concrète, that is, the extraction of pre-existing sound materials (field recordings, recordings of musical instruments, etc.) and their manipulation - not as a rejection of reality but as a metamorphic extension of it. My aim is to integrate the temporal dimensions of the past, present and future as coexisting through the unconventional use of old and ‘obsolete’ technologies as a means of musical and spiritual renewal.
