electroacoustic live set (duo) | (2025 - 2026) - Manticora: Daniel Kulari, Matteo Grosso
Manticora (named after the mythological creature resembling a chimera) is an electroacoustic improvisation duo formed by Matteo Grosso and Daniel Kulari, composers and performers from Cuneo and students at the Conservatory (Department of Electronic Music). Their approach is playful and self-ironic, combining noise and lo-fi aesthetics with non-academic vocal and piano techniques.
Their improvisational practice is based on plunderphonics, using and manipulating recognizable samples related to Chinese culture: folk songs, Peking Opera, 2000s C-pop, iconic films, and memes, alongside voice and piano.
The project is a playful yet reflective exploration of Chinese musical culture, also engaging with its social and media dimensions across past and present, and offering a critique of cultural appropriation. It aims to transform a space of exchange — such as a Chinese restaurant — into a parallel musical and performative dimension.
